Services:
Networking
This
is one of the core business at Mira Computers. We build
and maintain a variety of local area networks (LAN’s)
from peer-to-peer networking to larger wide area network
(WAN) client/server based systems. It is critical for
day-to-day operations that your network is running reliably
and efficiently. Technologies for computer networking
are moving so fast that wireless connectivity is now
an option. Wireless is helpful when running network
cable is undesirable or difficult.
See
our sections on peer-to-peer and client/server networks
for more information on what’s best for your home
or business.
Peer-to-Peer
Peer-to-peer networking is the most common solution
for home/home office, and small business. Simply put,
each computer in a peer-to-peer network can share files,
printers and drives without the cost of installing a
dedicated server computer. Each user on the peer-to-peer
network acts as server for other computers to gain access.
If you have the need to share a high-speed Internet
connection, then you’ll need to set up a peer-to-peer
network. Cross-Platform systems can also benefit from
peer-to-peer networking. If you have a Macintosh and
a PC running windows, why not make them talk to each
other? Imagine the possibilities. See our Network Technology
section to see if “wired” or “wireless”
is the right way to connect your peer-to-peer network.
Client/Server
Usually, networks above 10 workstations can benefit
from a client/server network. Certain business environments
call for several servers to be dedicated to a specific
purpose or “service”. Such services include
“Print Servers”, “File Servers”,
and “DNS Servers” The reason for this is
because the processing power that these services require
may be too great if they are all on one machine. The
single server environment typically is used for most
small businesses that want the increased speed, reliability,
and security that a peer-to-peer network may not offer.
Additionally, a server computer can more effectively
handle cross-platform services such as file and printer
sharing. The file server is also where your data should
be stored so if disaster strikes on a client computer
or the server itself, data can be restored from a TAPE
or RAID system.
Troubleshooting
and Maintenance
Network troubleshooting and maintenance is important
because you need to be able to quickly find the breakdown
in your network and get it fixed as fast as possible.
Many times the simplest solutions are the culprits to
a network nightmare. We make sure that all computers
connected to your network are communicating at peak
levels at all times.
Your
computer technology should be operating at its’
peak so you can get the most out of your investment
while increasing productivity in the workplace.
Network
Technology
The most commonly used physical medium in networking
is Ethernet. The data transfer rates vary from 10megabits/sec
to 200megabits/sec. Is Wired or Wireless best for you.
Let’s break that down a little to see what would
be best for your home or business.
The
speed at which your network runs starts with the Network
Interface card. With speeds ranging from 10 mb/sec up
to 1 gb/sec, cost will most likely be the deciding factor.
Routers can be used to share a single Internet connection
as well as providing an external firewall to your network.
The router can also keep logs, block inbound and outbound
access to certain services and forward outside internet
requests to specific computer in your local area network.
For more information on routers, see our firewalls section.
Cost
is always a factor in deciding which technology to purchase.
We provide an analysis of your needs and recommend the
best solution for you.
